EditRight
Editing Software Tool for Authors
EditRight software is a new software tool that works with Microsoft Word as a companion to the author in the process of re-writing and editing manuscripts. The author selects a passage for editing from the manuscript and EditRight offers a series of options for burrowing into the text to warn and coach the author about ways that the writing could be improved.

Most of the settings can be tailored by the author so that their own style and methods remain in their control. EditRight also offers a wide range of statistics and tools to compare those statistics to the writing of favorite authors.

Although EditRight does not do the author's editing task for them, it offers a framework and methodology that allows an author to gauge when they are 'finished' editing a specific piece of text. This helps the author make measured progress through long manuscripts.

For more details, you can look at the
EditRight Features:

+ Paragraph Statistics: Allow the author to visualize relative sentence and paragraph lenghts.

+ Flesch Reading Ease Index and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Index statistics makes it easier to determine if the author is achieving a consistent reading level for the target audience.

+ Audio Read Back: Reads the selected text back to the author and allows real time error correction during read back. This is a powerful copy editing tool and allows the author to 'hear' the lyric of their writing.

+ Redundant Word Search: Looks for redundant words within paragraphs, flags them and give the user access to the Word Thesaurus to help replace them.

EditRight was written by F.W. Faller, author of "A Sword for the Immerland King" and "Lonama's Map" (Available April 2004) to help in the challenging task of word-smithing his own work. It was helpful enough that he has prepared it for distribution to others.

EditRight is free, but in order to continue using it after 90 days, the user must register it and get authorization codes. The codes are free also.

The registraion is required so that others can continue to use the software, while it remains protected by the author.

+ Cursor Location Memory: Remembers where the cursor was when documents are closed and automatically opens the same documents a places the cursor in the same place. This allows and author to set up a Writing Environment that is established when the program is opened.

+ Author Definable lists: "Weak Words", "Pet Phrases," and other lists of pitfalls the author wishes to avoid can be tailored so the author is flagged when they violate their own rules.

+ Sentence length flag helps to warn the author of run-on sentences.

+ Grammar autocorrection for simple copy editing mistakes such as double spaces, spaces before commas and semi-colons, un-closed quotations and others are built into the software.
